WNOW April 29, 2014

In 2009, CBS Radio kicked off the second CHR boom with the flip of talk station KLSX to a new Amp Radio brand. Ironically, that station was also the last of the Amp stations to go away, and after a few months as 97.1 Now, the station flipped to a simulcast of all news KNX. Across the country in New York, CBS didn’t make 92.3, which had been rock WXRK for several years, into an Amp station right away, but launched a similar station known as Now 92.3. Unlike Amp in Los Angeles which did well for several years, Now in New York underwent constant change.

Here’s a brief recording of the station as heard on April 29, 2014. I do not remember now why I decided to record it, but given my recording habits at the time, it was either because Z100 was getting all the recording attention and I wanted to record the competition, or I wanted to get an updated legal from the station. This is the only clip of the station you will be hearing here at least for a while though, as like its Los Angeles sister station, 92.3 New York is now a simulcast of all news 1010 WINS, having flipped to that format in October 2023 after a roughly five year run with Alternative, to which it flipped upon closing of the purchase of CBS Radio by then Entercom.
