Looking at my favorite stations of 2017-18

The below post appeared on the Radio Crytic in early February 2019. This is also the review I referenced a couple weeks ago when talking about Y101 and its then recent flip to Classic Rock. Fortunately, WLOV is still around. I plan to do a couple of comparison listens of stations I’ve been listening to lately in a few weeks, I am just trying to close out the Radio Crytic and post what I want to keep from that site here. So, without further adieu, here is what appeared there in February 2019 with some spelling errors and formatting corrections.

What has been the common thread in my two favorite stations over the last couple years isn’t the mix of currents, but rather the gold. The two stations I’ve been listening to a lot lately are WLOV/Daytona Beach, FL and KRRY/Quinsey, IL. Ok technically I discovered WLOV during its 2016 Christmas run, where they somehow found a way to be soft but still tolerable by my standards. In 2017, I was dealing with a broken laptop and several other listening projects, so didn’t get to WLOV until I started working in September. What struck me right away was the variety. This was not a typical Soft AC, but rather a Classic Hits that leans to the softer side of AC. In that first day of listening, I heard many songs that I hadn’t heard on the radio in my home market in many years, and they continue to not disappoint. Here’s WLOV on Saturday, December 29 at 2:45 eastern:

KRRY is an older-leaning Hot AC, which I discovered while doing a 2018 project in which I found streams for, and listened to, stations that were on a list of stations that didn’t have streams, which I grabbed off one of the discussion boards in 2012. KRRY quickly replaced WLOV as my at work choice, again because of its gold component. Here they are starting just after 1:00 P.M. Central on Friday, December 28.
