Today, we take a listen to Mobile’s WABB. This is a station I did not know about at the time of this aircheck’s recording, but probably would have been one I would have listened to a lot that summer. Back then, I was still a bit timid in my approach to CHR listening. If I didn’t know or like a song, I would change the station, but by the end of the summer, I found myself doing that a lot less. By the time I got back from my summer program in August, I would have not known two songs in this clip, and they are the same two I didn’t know 14 years later when I got this aircheck.
The reason I got this is because WABB was a heritage station on the gulf coast. A day long tribute to the station was held in February 2012 when the station was sold, which is when I discovered it, but as much heritage as it has, I couldn’t find much tape on it. Mark, who I got this from, has a couple of clips of this station, but I want to say the other one was from around 1994. That’s an era I’m less interested in.
