I can’t remember why I recorded this clip of Detroit’s Channel 95.5 WKQI, but I punched up the Detroit receiver on Global Tuners and decided to record it one Thursday afternoon. At the time, I was trying to get as many airchecks of heritage stations as possible. WKQI adopted its current brand in 1997, but had been some form of CHR for many years by then. Now, I’m not concerned as much about how many airchecks of a station exist, as I think it’s going to be difficult if not impossible to find out how much tape of any station exists. I’ve often had dreams about either time traveling or, more recently, traveling deep into space, with the only purpose being collecting every aircheck I know has ever existed, and maybe a few that don’t currently exist. Even if that were possible, I think I’d miss some, as I’m sure someone somewhere has stuff nobody else has.
Getting back to reality and the present time though, I think I still have access to Detroit air signals, so an update of this station may be in the cards for next week. If not, we’re going to listen to something that was recorded nearly 22 and a half years ago. I can’t believe I’m saying that, as I have a personal connection to that clip that I will share when it’s posted. For now though, here’s this week’s aircheck.
